To accelerate the growth of the data-based economy and to support the development of B2B platforms in Europe
The Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) is conducting the study “Big Data and B2B platforms: the next big opportunity for Europe” whose objective is to analyse how to accelerate the growth of the data-based economy and to support the development of B2B platforms in Europe focusing on two sectors: automotive and healthcare.
The Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME). EASME has been set-up by the European Commission to manage on its behalf several EU programmes in the fields of SME support & innovation, environment, climate action, energy and maritime affairs.
Under this study, two pilots will be developed, one for each sector being analysed. The pilot for the healthcare sector will demonstrate an architecture for fair and equal sharing of health data from different sources and different regions. The automotive sector’s pilot will provide an approach regarding cooperative, connected and automated mobility with the introduction and piloting of a ‘Shared Server Solution’.
This study started on December 2018 and will end on December 2020, for a total duration of two years.
Wavestone as a consortium leader and coordinator
Wavestone will play the role of consortium leader and coordinator (consortium: Wavestone, ICCS-NTUA, TNO, CEPS, KOMIS, Grimaldi Studio Legale). In addition, Wavestone will steer the activities of the stakeholders involved in this study (industry, academia, business associations) and will be contributing to the report on the “Market deficiencies and Regulatory Barriers” to be provided as one of the outputs of this study.
The major objectives of the mission are:
⁄ enable businesses, especially SMEs, to take advantage of the opportunities offered by large data;
⁄ design and implement two large scale pilot projects: one for connected and automated systems and the other to build a high-quality pan-European diabetes data repository, using the latest technologies and major advances in data science;
⁄ promote and stimulate strategic investment in high-impact projects in the above-mentioned areas;
⁄ support the participation of SMEs in the data economy by identifying barriers and recommending possible solutions.
The outcomes of the study will be partly used to make recommendations to the EU and national policy markets and an action plan will be implemented in order to foster the creation of shared EU-wide in-vehicle data platforms and unified diabetes related data platforms.
