Background

Carmakers are aware that growth in the automobile sector will be underpinned by the transformation of the vehicle itself. Cars will no longer be a simple means of transport, but will take on a key role in the mobility solutions market. With a range of integrated and scalable services, vehicles will be able to offer drivers and passengers a new mobility experience. A leading carmaker asked Wavestone to help it design and implement a platform capable of supplying such mobility solutions for its vehicles of the future.

Challenges

Alongside its client, Wavestone addresses three major challenges:

  • Redesigning the functioning and management of connected vehicles by offering users integrated services at the global level.
  • Gaining insight into the Internet of Things (IoT) – a market that is rapidly changing but not yet standardized – to offer a coherent and scalable technological base which must be adapted to suit the long product life-cycle of the automobile.
  • Defining an as-a-service platform using recent technologies and which is capable of managing a large number of vehicles (over 20 million in 10 years).

Responses and key success factors

Wavestone has provided a variety of technical expertise ranging from insight into understanding the communications chain between the vehicle and the management infrastructures, through to the technical composition solution required to activate and manage the connected services throughout the lifecycle of the vehicle.
