Background

Government Department Office of Rail and Road (ORR) decided to move away from a large scale outsourcing contract to the Cloud to deliver a mobile, modern and secure Information Communications Technology (ICT) service.

Challenges

Wavestone had to provide specialist expertise and support to help review and define a clear plan for the transition programme, allowing ORR to exit their outsourcing contract within restricted timescales and successfully transition to a new Cloud based solution.

Answers and key factors for success

On completion of Wavestone’s role in the project, ORR proceeded with the transition programme. ORR successfully exited their outsourcing contract within the given timeframe, with applications moved out of the outsourcer’s datacentre to the new Cloud environment and the service desk brought in-house. ORR now have the structure in place to support a long-term strategy for flexible, mobile working.

The new Cloud based solution allows for a more flexible way of working, which is a very new style for a Government organisation. This has unlocked opportunities for the organisation and enabled the ICT Strategy to compliment and support the long-term development of the organisation.
